Cambridge City Hotel
Situated in the very centre of Cambridge, the Cambridge City Hotel offers four-star accommodation to a range of travellers and is situated in one of the city’s best-known buildings.
Work was recently completed on a full refurbishment project which cleaned, repaired and replaced elements of the external façade; the products were used by Twistfix-registered contractor Build-Tech (Midlands) as part of the refurbishment specification.
Best-known for its university, officially one of the top five best universities in the world, Cambridge takes its name from the River Cam, upon which it lies. As well as Cambridge City Hotel, the region’s skyline is also famous for other buildings including the Chapel Tower of St. John’s College and the imposing chimney of the world-class Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
The refurbishment plan for the external façade of Cambridge City Hotel was headed by Bau Projects Ltd and, fully comprehensive, included window replacement, stone cleaning and masonry and quoin repairs. Bau Projects appointed Build-Tech (Midlands) to carry out the complex and vital process of completing repairs to the external facade of the brickwork and of the thermal separation fractures that had occurred.
To achieve the brief to the highest standard, contractors from Build-Tech (Midlands) made extensive use of Twistfix Retrofit Brick Ties to securely connect the inner and outer walls of the building and Twisted Reinforcement Bars to strengthen masonry panels, tie the quoins and repair all existing cracks, to safeguard against any further damage in the future. All ties and bars were skilfully concealed leaving the facade looking virtually untouched. In complimenting the superlative standard of the completed work, Managing Director of Bau Projects Alan Walker emailed build-Tech (Midlands) directly, saying, “you must pass our thanks and appreciation of a truly professional job done on by your lads on the Cambridge City Hotel.”
A Twistfix spokesman commented “We are proud to supply our products to Build-Tech (Midlands), a fully ISO-registered organisation whose contractors carry out a diverse range of masonry strengthening, damp prevention, building conversion and structural renovation work.
